چکیده
Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the oncologic and functional long-term outcome after surgical therapy of pleomorphic adenomas of the submandibular gland. Methods The medical charts of all patients treated for pleomorphic adenomas of the submandibular gland by means of submandibulectomy between 2000 and 2016 were studied retrospectively. Patients who had had revision after external primary surgery, as well as patients with insufficient data were excluded from our study sample. Results A total of 75 patients formed our study sample (28 men, 47 women, male:female ratio 0.59:1). Their mean age was 48 years (14-78 years). Mean follow-up was 82 months (12-170 months). No recurrences of a pleomorphic adenoma could be detected in our study cases. Normal facial nerve function (House-Brackmann grade I) in the direct postoperative phase was shown in 54/75 cases (72%). In the remaining 21/75 cases (28%), mild paresis of the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve (House-Brackmann II) could be detected in the direct postoperative phase. All cases with facial palsy had recovered with normal facial nerve function (House-Brackmann I) in 3-6 months. Conclusion Our study was able to show oncologic and consistently acceptable oncologic and functional outcomes after submandibulectomy for pleomorphic adenomas of the submandibular gland. Level of Evidence 4.

Synchronous Parotid and Homolateral Submandibular Gland Pleomorphic Adenoma
Introduction: Pleomorphic adenomas are benign neoplasms of salivary glands. The simultaneous homolateral occurrence of these tumors in salivary glands is exceedingly rare. Case Report: An adult female presenting to our OPD with the swelling of right-sided preauricular and submandibular regions was diagnosed with the pleomorphic adenoma based on fine needle aspiration c...

Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm in children, which can be treated by simple excision. This tumor is rarely included in the differential diagnosis of solid submandibular masses in children. In the neonates, congenital pleomorphic adenoma usually presents in the nasopharynx. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and recurrence is not expected. We ...

Background: In cancers of prostate, breast, oropharynx, lung, hypopharynx and skin, human tissue kallikreins has been demonstrated as a main role in these problems. There are many research works in which some human tissue kallikreins are expressed in salivary glands. In the present study, the main goal was to determine expression of human tissue kallikreins 4, 8, 10, 11 and 13 ...
متن کاملSubmandibular gland pleomorphic adenoma in a seven-year-old child: a case report.
Salivary gland neoplasms are rare in the pediatric age group. Pleomorphic adenomas in the submandibular gland are rarer. In this article, we present a seven-year-old female with a slowly growing mass in her right submandibular area. The firm, mobile and painless mass was about 2x3 cm in size and with bimanual palpation it was indiscriminated from the submandibular gland. Magnetic resonance imag...
متن کاملDNA aneuploidy as a topographic malignant transformation pattern in a pleomorphic adenoma of long-term evolution: a case report
INTRODUCTION We present a case of long-term evolution of a submandibular pleomorphic adenoma. There is little information about topographic malignant transformation patterns of pleomorphic adenomas. CASE PRESENTATION We extensively analyze a giant submandibular mixed tumor of 25-year evolution in a 57-year-old Caucasian woman. Deoxyribonucleic acid ploidy was evaluated in different superficia...
